Introduction to the Monographic Issue: Politics and Digital Activism
Abstract
In March 2024, Congress H was held in Lanzarote, with the aim of bringing together professionals and academics in the field of communication and audiovisual media. The "Politics and Digital Activism" track placed a special emphasis on topics related to political communication on social media, disinformation, and polarization. This issue of the journal Austral Comunicación presents a selection of articles that were presented within the framework of the Congress and that, from different theoretical perspectives and methodological tools, offer reflections on various types of discourses: those issued by Latin American presidents (Javier Milei in Argentina and Nayib Bukele in El Salvador); those produced within the context of right-wing political movements; and hate speech generated on the Twitch platform and in the digital ecosystem when the context is marked by political violence and insecurity.
