Abstract

These last 15 years show a Congress that is increasingly balanced in its political forces, but, at the same time, with much more ideologically radicalized political parties. While Republicans and Democrats have regularly alternated control of both chambers, in each party there are figures who lean to their extremes. Although the political maturity of the United States political system allows a very regular alternation of its parties in Congress, where events tend to repeat themselves, almost mechanically, with obvious predictability, this contrasts with the internal ideological hardening that is noticeable both in the democrats as in republicans.
