The Relevance of Environmental Law Legal Clinics in Peru

Abstract

Legal clinics are an appealing alternative comparing to traditional teaching in Law Schools. The implementation of the legal clinic has two fundamental topics, i.e., the teaching process and methodology. The present paper focuses on the strategies and work plan related to the Environmental Law Clinic and analyses the skills and activities to be conducted by the students and the role of professors. Thus, it is vital to have a comprehensive analysis of the theory behind the legal clinic, and then define the methodological guidelines that may be included in the study plan. Additionally, the environmental relevant actions are described to review the issues and the possible solutions. The idea is to provide an approach to the clinical methodology and incorporate it as a teaching method that merges the theoretical knowledge with the environmental law practice. Finally, the students’ active involvement is emphasized due to their compromise with social responsibility cases in their community.

  • Diego San Martín Villaverde, Universidad César Vallejo

    Lawyer from the University of Lima, with a Second Specialty Degree in Environmental Law and Natural Resources from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) and a Post-graduate Diploma in Mining and Environmental Law. issued by the UPC. Master in Environmental Law from the International Institute for Environmental Training (Spain), Master in Territorial Planning and Environmental Management from the University of Barcelona (Spain) and Master in Policy, Management and Environmental Law from the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega University (Peru) . He is a Doctor from the University of Jaén (Spain). He has served as director of the Academic Department of the Law course at the Universidad Científica del Sur and is a professor at said house of studies. He is a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. He is also a researcher at the César Vallejo University.

  • Yenny Eliana Sotomayor Marcelo, Universidad de Alicante

    Lawyer from the University of Lima, specializing in Intellectual Property and Commercial Law. She courses on Trademarks and Patents by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) (Alicante-Spain). Master in Applied Linguistics in English and Spanish from the University of Alicante (Spain). Currently, she is a PhD candidate in the Linguistic Studies-Forensic Linguistics research line at the University of Alicante (Spain). She works as Coordinator of the Cooperation Project (Korea-Peru) in Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property programs, at the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
