Contempt Laws and Criminal Libel in Latin America

This paper aims to show the regulation of criminal defa- mation and desacato laws in Latin American countries, in particular the treatment given to the speech related to public interest issues. The main goal of the research is to analyze the usage of criminal law to protect the honor or reputation of public, its link to the criticism of officials or public institutions and its impact on freedom of speech.
