This research analyzes self-caricature as a strategy for electoral branding, using the case of Rafael López Aliaga (RLA) and his association with the character Porky in the Peruvian political context. Through a content analysis of three videos and two focus groups in Lima, the study evaluated the symbolism of the branding and public perception. The results indicate that self-caricature increased the candidate’s visibility but did not alter perceptions of his preexisting controversial traits. Self-caricature softened an aggressive profile by adding familiarity, although the effect on the politician’s evaluation was limited by his prior image, particularly among older adults. Self-caricature achieves a limited affective transfer that has a more tactical than strategic effect.
